Sainthood

Nicole and I thought it would be a brilliant idea to save St. Peters Basilica for the very last day of our trip, a kind of finale to end our time in Rome. We ended up waiting in three different lines, each about 45 minutes long. We could not figure out why it was ten times as crowded than usual. Every person was pushing, shoving, and cussing in foreign languages. We even witnessed  people passing out. It was a torturous wait, but worth it.

It was a great coincidence that the mass for Pope John II beautification was taking place in the Basilica! His casket was in the center of the church and they had a huge choir.  I am so glad I did not bail out of that line within the first hour. It was one of the best things I have seen on this trip.
